Major Objectives

About The Department of Physics

The Department of Physics at Dibrugarh University, established in 1967, began its journey with four faculty members: Dr. K. M. Khanna as Professor and Head, along with Dr. K. Barua, Dr. B. Baishya, and Mr. P. K. Baruah. Currently, the department has a faculty strength comprising four professors, three associate professors, and five assistant professors. The department offers Five years Integrated M.Sc., M.Sc , Five Year Integrated Post Graduate Programme (FYIPGP) under NEP and Ph. D. Courses. Its primary mission is to offer high-quality teaching and training and research in Physics, meeting the rigorous standards expected of a premier postgraduate institution. The current research scholar strength is 70 and 160 students. The department aims to advance, disseminate, and expand knowledge in Physics, addressing the specific needs of the state and contributing to the nation as a whole. Additional objectives include fostering collaboration with Physics educators in affiliated colleges, organizing intensive workshops, conducting regional, national, and international seminars, regularly revising and updating the teaching curriculum, and introducing innovative approaches to Physics education.

The department strives to produce skilled professionals who can contribute significantly to the scientific community, society, and the nation. Additionally, the department is committed to advancing research in areas of contemporary interest and collaborating with both national and international institutions to push the frontiers of knowledge in Physics.
